Research overview
Vilon is a bioregulatory dipeptide (Lys-Glu) that targets immune system regulation, making it one of the shortest bioactive peptides ever characterized. Despite its minimal size, Vilon has demonstrated significant biological activity in modulating T-cell differentiation, enhancing innate immunity through NK cell activation, normalizing CD4+/CD8+ ratios in immunocompromised models, supporting thymic epithelial cell function and thymopoiesis, modulating cytokine networks including IL-2, IFN-γ, and IL-10 production, and restoring delayed-type hypersensitivity responses in aged animals. Research by Professor Khavinson's group has demonstrated that Vilon, like other bioregulatory peptides, can interact directly with DNA and modulate gene expression at the epigenetic level, influencing chromatin remodeling and transcription factor accessibility. Its small size offers advantages for research into structure-activity relationships of minimal bioactive peptide sequences and for studying the fundamental mechanisms by which short peptides can exert gene-regulatory effects. Applications include immunosenescence research, post-infection immune recovery, and vaccine response enhancement studies.
