Research demonstrates it modulates GABA-ergic neurotransmission by influencing GABA transaminase activity, enhances serotonergic signaling through 5-HT receptor modulation, increases BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) expression in the hippocampus, and modulates the expression of genes involved in enkephalin synthesis. Its anxiolytic effects have been demonstrated in multiple validated behavioral models (elevated plus maze, open field test, Vogel conflict test) without the sedation, dependence, or cognitive impairment associated with benzodiazepines.
